  • Highlights from the meeting include:
  • Pull A-HEAd Initiative presentation by Dr. Joni Nelson, PHd and Dr. Irene Lubker, PHd. A collaborative effort to reduce head and neck cancers. South Carolina is among the top ten for head and neck cancers (MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, 2019)​. This initiative supports the SCOHAN Innovation and Transformation Action Hub
  • Promotion of  National Children’s Dental Health Month highlighting DOH learning and education opportunities, DPH press release, and Columbia Marionette Theater events across the state.
  • DOH presentation of NEW Ryan White Oral Health Initiative increasing access to oral health care for people living with HIV AIDS in SC​. 90% of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) have at least one chronic oral condition (AETC) while only 27% of Ryan White clients in SC received Oral Health care in 2022.​
  • SCOHAN updates include hiring a new Program Coordinator, a new network logo proposition, and identifying key tasks to accomplish before the May 17 meeting.  
  • Presented CHW training plan and intent to build a virtual toolkit and online request space.

  • Highlights from the meeting include:
    An update on the Public Health Dental Prevention Program, Community Water Fluoridation mini-grants, and the Oral Health Diabetes Medical Dental Integration project.
  • Information about a NEW partnership and initiative around Oral Health and Opioids that is currently being launched.
  • Discussions about the upcoming release of the Statewide Oral Health Needs Assessment Report which is expected to be available in January 2024 and will provide a snapshot of the current status of children’s oral health in SC.
  • A historical view of the Action Network as we look to expanding and evolving into an entity that can be responsive to and a part of improving oral health in the state.
